September 1, 2010 –  September 20, 2010 Speeding in MAHWAH

The township of Mahwah has been named New Jersey’s “worst speed trap” by the National Motorists Association driving-rights group. The patrol officers earned this title by the motoring public due to their enforcement of speeding violations in school zones and residential areas. They are around a bend on Route 17 and waiting near the New York state line on Interstate 287.

Alcoholic drinks at College

The alcoholic energy drink 4 Loko is a drink with quite the reputation, sometimes referred to as liquid cocaine. Police in Northern New Jersey say that the beverage is causing problems on college campuses and they’re worried high school students may be doing the same thing. Mahwah Police who responded to alcohol related calls at Ramapo College campus say that those who had been overindulging would sometimes fall unconscious and require hospitalization. Since this interview Ramapo College has banned 4 Loko from college campus and enforced stricter rules on the consumption of alcoholic beverages on campus.

June 11, 2010 Special Olympics Every year the Mahwah P.B.A. Local 143 joins other locals and Law Enforcement Agency’s state wide to participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run. Each year more than 2,700 law enforcement officers participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. June 10, 2010 Impersonating an Officer Arrest

Steven H. Zeichner, 67, tried to pass off a promotional item that was distributed by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office as a police badge and verbally identified himself as an officer, while stopping another vehicle. He was scared off by a passerby who called the Mahwah Police. Officer Hayes located Zeichner’s vehicle and stopped him. He eventually did locate a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Gold Star ID, which contained Zeichner’s photograph and other personal information in his possession. Zeichner was charged with impersonating a Police Officer.

June 6, 2010 C.D.S / Eluding Arrest Brother Conley saw a vehicle speeding along Route 17 South at about 2:40 a.m. and activated his emergency lights. The driver, Shahan Momin, did not stop and continued speeding. Momin eventually lost control of his car just south of the Route 3 interchange. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, eluding police, driving while intoxicated and numerous motor vehicle violations.
